of the Sea” was inspired from a trip to Portsmouth, New Hampshire
when Joanne was exhibiting her art there at the time. |

Crushed shells from that beach were collected and added to the paints on the original. The cross in the bodice of her dress is made up of crushed oyster shells and sea shells ground up to fine dust were added to her wings. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
